From time to time, Terry Scott Taylor (Daniel Amos, Swirling Eddies and all round genius producer) has released spoken word comedy under the pseudonym Dr Edward Daniel Taylor. Format wise this album sounds like someone flicking through stations and listening to different programmes. It gives Taylor and his pals the opportunity to have a satirical dig at a lot of Christian culture. Highlights include a piece on a prosperity preacher fleecing his followers with a fictional portrayal of the end times in a book called My Left Behind and an interview with yodelling star Arthur Fhardy (first immortalised on a Swirling Eddies song).
Other items include a satirical children's animated series "Fruity Yarns" with a hilarious song every bit as appalling as some of those ditties Maranatha! Kids inflicted on us; the last of the old time blues men Blind Lemon Meringue and W.W.J.S., otherwise known as What Would Jesus Sell! And don't forget to check out The Plain White Rappers who are probably the worst hip-hop crew in the world. All of this is crazy, well observed and ever so slightly unhinged! And from time to time, there's even a point as he nails the excesses of the subculture. Occasionally it goes on a bit. But overall it's pretty funny.
