New inventions
Our good intentions
Birthed a movement with a common tongue
Progress world-wide
Helped to unify
The resolve of the nations
The pace was stunning
We'd prayed for something
Brand new under the sun
And almost overnight
(Oh what a wondrous sight!)
We laid its sound foundation

(Brick by brick) towards the divine...
(Brick by brick)...the stairway winds...
(Brick by brick)...the gods of knowledge climb
Too proud to see the flaws in their design
Fallen nature built it and brought it down
Our deceitful hearts razed it to the cold hard ground
And the hateful gibberish of all the fools and clowns
Made us miss the clues
That all along
We'd been building Babylon

The dream was shattered
The tribes were scattered
Their own echo was all they could hear
And soon a virus spread
Filling every head
With a blinding dose of hate and fear
Their words were killers
Their voices shriller
All of them screaming "Our will be done!"
And almost overnight
(Oh what a wondrous sight!)
They laid another sound foundation

(Brick by brick) towards the divine...
(Brick by brick)...the stairway winds...
(Brick by brick)...the gods of knowledge climb
Too proud to see the flaws in their design
Our deceitful hearts razed it to the cold hard ground
And the hateful gibberish of all the fools and clowns
Made us miss the clues
That all along
We'd been building Babylon

We formed a union
Amid the ruins
Determined we would carry on
Vowing not to make
The same old mistakes,
We soon began to build Babylon
