The Rough and Tumble

I had a dream about getting back to paradise again
But could not get past the flaming sword and the mighty cherubim
I could only go forward in the hot mess we've all made
Beneath the branches of a healing tree I found respite in the shade

Then out into the rough and tumble
I joined the priestly dance
The ballet of creation
The divine romance

Out in the rough and tumble
I danced above defeat
And across hereafter's pavement
On risen feet

I heard a voice whisper that I was not here on my own
And that he wouldn't be thwarted in his plans to bring me home
"No one can get back to Eden," the still small voice said
"You may have come here to find rest but you've made a hard bed"

Out here in the rough and tumble
I joined the priestly dance
The ballet of creation
The divine romance

Out in the rough and tumble
I danced above defeat
And across hereafter's pavement
On risen feet

This is a Mystery to explore, not a puzzle to be solved
The stillpoint of the turning world around which the dance revolves
The Word is speaking into being the eternal resolution
That death is our sins' final absolution

Out in the rough and tumble
Come join the priestly dance
The ballet of creation
The divine romance

Out in the rough and tumble
We'll dance above defeat
And across hereafter's pavement
On risen feet

(Come dear child, join the priestly dance...)
Here in the rough and tumble
(The ballet of creation, the divine romance)
Here in the rough and tumble
(Across hereafter on risen feet)
Here in the rough and tumble
