What are you spinning today?

Been listening an old CD Mr. Dork let me borrow he said it was a favorite of his.....i just don't get it.

Squint - Steve Taylor

I was suprised that Steve Taylor liked easy listening music and Barry Manilow too!

Easy Listening

gather me grandchildren if you love a good mystery
gather me grandchildren for a little church history
it's 2044: you're avoiding our turn-of-the-century way

how did we strike it rich?
...kissing up to the powerful
how did we make our pitch?
...satellites by the towerful
why do you young people have to go and get caught up in a radical phase?

conscience was clear and my wallet was full
didn't hear none of this "sacrifice" bull
tough times call for a backtrack
gimme that old-time easy listening

cuddle up, yeah yeah
12 hours, twice a day
cuddle up, yeah yeah
simmer down, attaway

color me old-fashioned, but I will remember
when the sermons were affirmin, cause the Lord liked us better then
its 2044
and I don't wanna be my brother's keeper no more

color me chicken yellow if I liked it in the ozone
call me lemon jello if I lacked a little backbone
we're King's Kids, dangit
and we used to know what a housekeeper was for

tickle my ear and I'll pay for your show
sing about stuff that I already know
whisper sweet nothings
pour a nightcap

gimme that old time easy listening
cuddle up, yeah yeah
12 hours, twice a day
cuddle up, yeah yeah
simmer down, attaway
cuddle up, yeah yeah
order now, don't delay
cuddle up, yeah yeah
sleep it off, drool away

gather-me-round children, cause your faith is a mystery
gather me grandchildren for a little church history
its 2044 and I miss our turn-of-the-century ways

how did we strike it rich?
...kissing up to the powerful
how did we strike it rich?
...satellites by the towerful
why do you young hotheads have to go and get caught up in a radical phase?
I'm ok, you're OK, we're OK, so
think I'm gonna by my own radio show
spread the good news and the barry manilow
happy talk, no rock, non-stop easy listening

  Hey! Me too!

Not Squint, but I Predict 1990. Also:
Rebecca St. James -- Pray
Carolyn Arends -- The Way I Am
77s -- Drowning with Land in Sight
the Tuxedo Clad Megastar -- Mission 3:16
Swirling Eddies -- Outdoor Elvis

  Choir man Steve

I was so surprised learning today that Steve Taylor was selling SATBs for all "your favorite" Christian music that my voice cracked like many of the students I teach. But our school's choir director is using the stuff. Amazing but true and the wonders never cease. As for me, I'm spinning Surfonic and right now Sprinkle's solo ablum, to get me through this day. Ahhhhhhhh... (happy sigh)

Why do I have a Seaeme Street song going through my head?

One of these things is not like the other....

Oh yeah Steve good.

But Uber I thought you'd be upset with the Jesus is for Losers like your pal at http://www.av1611.org ?

As I mentioned in another thread I've got "The Finish Line" as a dance in an upcoming youth service.

These two cannot exist in the same time-space continuum (sp?). You will love the one and hate the other... Smile )

I clicked on that link, and all I can say is... dang. There are some people out there with way too much time on their hands. I love how they use ironic line from Steve Taylor (such as "Got no need for altar calls") to prove that he's evil. But they don't (as far as I noticed) have anything on DA on there (an obvious oversight. DA is far more evil than any of the bands they mention Wink ). I think we need to burn them a special mix CD of DA's best "TBN" songs. Woudn't it just be grand to read their reaction to "Hide the Beer"? (of course, they'd probably have a heart attack just reading the song title)

They have them listed in their "Bands who are evil because they cover other peoples songs" section.

Y'know it's that whole sing a new song thing.

I didn't notice that. But still, DA deserves credit for their original stuff too.

i have too much time on my hands....but there's just a LITTLE bit of irony for the 'how dare the christians sing a song written by a non-christian' section....

they site "40" and Turn,Turn,Turn.....

last I checked those 2 songs had lyrics directly from the BIBLE.

how bizarrely funny is that....

Well sure, but those lyrics from the Bible were put into EVIL melodies by servants of Satan! They're not just evil like the rest of rock, they're blasphemous! How could anyone calling themselves Christian have anything to do with them?
I think that's how their argument would run.

Speaking of Steve Taylor. IS there any word on him releasing his stuff ala The Choir. The COmplete Recordings?

Why is he silent?

HE needs to collaborate with the Terry Taylor.

What kinda project would that turn into/???

Oh, how wonderful and bizarre that would be. I'd buy it in a second.
As for a complete recordings set from Steve, the closet thing to that is his "Now the Truth Can be Told" from '94. Not complete, but a decent sampling from all his pre-Squint albums. Still, I agree: I want the complete recordings!
