  Doesn't this sound kinda rude?

Greetings,

I visited the Larry Norman online store (www.larrynorman.com) to make a purchase (Stonehill's long-awaited WTP cd release); and in the process I noticed this portion of Larry Norman's review of DA's "Horrendous Disc" cd:

-------------
"Albums came and went. Even a four-part apocalyptic "concept album" with diverse songs about surfers, and dancing couldn't somehow catch the vision that Horrendous Disc presented. This one album maximized their popularity with the general public who were soon left behind. Only the hard work of CCM journalists like John Quincy Newcombe and his unbroken succession of ecstatic album reviews kept the term "genius" and Terry Taylor in many reader's minds. His works were not always easy to find. But journalists and fans carried the banner high, and kept the middle-of-the-road people mindful of his meaningful music."
--------------

Geez, with all due respect to Larry Norman, that was a very rude, and subjective paragraph.

What I get out of it is Larry Norman saying:

1) DA hasn't made anything on par with Horrendous Disc.
2) Only silly reviewers like John Quincy Newcombe insisted that Taylor was a genius even though in reality he had lost his flare since Horrendous Disc.
3) DA's music since Horrendous Disc was "middle of the road" and for "middle of the road" people.
4) "with diverse songs about surfers and dancing" is a fair way to sum up the Alarma Chronicles.
5) They left the general public behind after Horrendous Disc.

Seems to me that Larry Norman is still carrying a lot of bitterness from DA's leaving of Solid Rock way back when.

What do you guys think?

Take care,
Jim

I have to admit I don't like much past something new under the son which came out around the same time as HD. He's had a couple of tunes that I liked, but not entire albums like TST, DA, SE and LD.

Ya... Good old Larry.... he is nuts of course... and with a huge ego to boot.

Here's an idea for LN to make a DA tribute:

1) Hound of heaven - DC Talk with LN on Vocals
2) Hound of heaven - Stryper with LN on vocals
3) Hound of heaven - the Tuxedo Clad Megastar duet with LN
4) Hound of heaven - Petra with LN on vocals
5) Hound of heaven - Jakob's Trouble with LN on vocals
6) Hound of heaven - Supertones with LN on vocals
7) Hound of heaven - Avalon with LN on vocals
8) Hound of heaven - Amy Grant duet with LN
9) Hound of heaven - Bloodgood with LN on vocals
10 Hound of heaven - DA version with LN overdub on vocal

plus 2 bonus tracks!

Larry doing a crap version of Hound of Heaven
Larry doing a ''reading'' of Hound of Heaven

or maybe larry talking about how his vision helped Hound of Heaven

Posted by servantsteve on 07-06-2002 at20:07:

How about LN's dog Phydeaux howling the Hound of Heaven?

Larry Norman rocks but NO ONE is as good as he thinks he is.

That little review proves that Larry doesn't know a nada thing. The reviewer is Brian Quincy Newcomb, not John. Proves that Larry is about as dumb as the Tuxedo Clad Megastar.

Finally available, and it's a great sounding disc, and the liner notes are great.

Sadly whoever sequenced the disc did a terrible job. Don't listen to this one on shuffle.

A shame, but still great to have on disc.

Kinda like VH the "collectors edition" from the early 90's where a few songs were cut in half and "it's sick" became "it's slick"
the one sounded horrid on shuffle

Yeah, I've got that one too. Thankfully I've got the book set.

I love Larry, yes I do.

I love Larry, how about you?

His message is real and down to earth. I have really apprieciated him in concert. If I had the cash, I would purchase all of his compilation albums. If he took over the KMG catalogue, the reissues would be great. Of course, we would see 20 of his compilations to every one of another artist... but they would be great.

I ordered the Randy Stonehill album and the new In Another Land. Has anybody listened to his Tourniquet cd?

I wish that I could find The Tune on CD...

To misquote Steve Taylor:

"The golden Cash Cow had a body like the great cows of ancient Egypt
And a face like the face of Larry Norman (without the horns)"

Slamhound (of Heaven)
(Like your regular Hound of Heaven but much more violent)
