  Don't Fence Me In

My wife and I are lovers of Broadway musicals. We have been listening a lot lately to the works of Cole Porter. He was a great writer, but a troubled soul. He wrote a tune called Don't Fence Me In which was a western song for a Bing Crosby movie. It was also recorded by many country artists, including Roy Rogers. If you ever heard this song, listen for hints of it in Uncle Terry's Ten Gallon Hat. I swear there is a correlation. Tell me if I am wrong:
Don't Fence Me In (You'll have to scroll down to find the clip and listen)

I liked David Byrne's version of that song.

I guess I missed his version. What recording was it from?

It was from an AIDS album. Red Hot and Blue, I think it was called. A bunch of singers did covers of Cole Porter songs. Early nineties.

I must get this cd! I just listened to the clip from Byrne, and it is great. I still hear Ten Gallon Hat in it!

We have blue laws in Oklahoma, I can't.

Posted by Aqua Green Toupee on 01-30-2005 at11:07:

Really? You can't buy anything? Or are they just blues laws?

No, they are blue laws - as in it's a "blue" state, so if you didn't vote blue, you can't buy stuff at certain times. Tongue Big Grin

Our blue laws cover liquor purchases mainly. It used to be all places were shut down, but that has changed.

Now blue balls, that is another story.....

Big Grin

I think SC recently repealed about the last of their blue laws, related to alcohol purchases. I think it was about the last state around here to have any (blue laws, that is).
