  DA "Anthology"

I know threads not too much different than this have been done before, but this one has a little twist:

Since Darn Floor - Big Bite is being re-released on Arena Rock Records, what if Arena Rock were to also release a "Best of..." Daniel Amos album? This would likely be marketed toward those who have never heard DA before. I'd assume it would be a two disc album, with 15 songs on each disc. If you were to pick the songs, which ones would you choose?

someone has a lot of time on their hands..
and Cool it ain't me.

Disc 1:
1 - I Love You #19
2 - Hound Of Heaven
3 - (Near Sighted Girl With Approaching) Tidal Wave
4 - Alarma
5 - Through The Speakers
6 - Walls of Doubt
7 - Youth With A Machine
8 - Memory Lane
9 - Autographs For The Sick
10 - Travelog
11 - When Worlds Collide
12 - Sanctuary
13 - The Pool
14 - Strong Points, Weak Points
15 - Shadow Catcher

Disc 2:
1 - Darn Floor - Big Bite
2 - Safety Net
3 - The Shape of Air
4 - If You Want To
5 - Tracking the Amorous Man
6 - Grace is the Smell of Rain
7 - Noelle
8 - Bakersfield
9 - Out In The Cold
10 - Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You
11 - Glory Road
12 - When Everyone Wore Hats
13 - Pay For Surf
14 - So Far, So Good
15 - And So it Goes

That puts the "earlier" stuff on one disc and the "later" stuff on the other. I didn't include any pre-HD songs because it probably would appeal less to the "typical" Arena Rock listener.

So what do you think, Arena Rock Records? How 'bout one for the home team, eh?

Yep, it's me! Big Grin Sometimes I wish I had less. Other times I wish I had more. I guess it's better than having no time!

  Autographs for the sick?

That one would scare people off, which I don't think is the intent...

Posted by jiminy on 07-24-2008 at07:58:

Its almost impossible-
but you did a great job R-az

MAybe a song from SA to start the show- after all- they launched in that vein.. say Fathers Arms?-

or even Light your own fire. from DA76.
utha than that-

approved! Cool

Posted by jiminy on 07-24-2008 at08:00:

( let Autograghs - or Strong Points/Weak Points go to make room)

there - a sense of direction Big Grin

Posted by Ritchie_az on 07-24-2008 at11:55:

So you think I have some strong points and some weak points, and the band wouldn't autograph the album for the sick listeners?

Ok, let's cut Stong Points, Weak Points out and place Fathers Arms as the first track of disc 1.

As far as Autographs For The Sick, it may scare some people, but, it's so far into disc one--you know, if they're not convinced by this point, they're likely not going to be DA fans. So, really, I don't think it'll scare anybody away. But I think it may very well make someone who doesn't think DA is quirky enough (you know, through the first eight tracks), rethink his or her opinion.

Posted by Ritchie_az on 07-24-2008 at13:43:

OK, how is this, then:

Disc 1:
1 - Fathers Arms
2 - I Love You #19
3 - Hound Of Heaven
4 - (Near Sighted Girl With Approaching) Tidal Wave
5 - Alarma
6 - Through The Speakers
7 - Walls of Doubt
8 - Youth With A Machine
9 - Memory Lane
10 - Autographs For The Sick
11 - Travelog
12 - When Worlds Collide
13 - Sanctuary
14 - The Pool
15 - Shadow Catcher

Disc 2:
1 - Darn Floor - Big Bite
2 - Safety Net
3 - The Shape of Air
4 - If You Want To
5 - Tracking the Amorous Man
6 - Grace is the Smell of Rain
7 - Noelle
8 - Bakersfield
9 - Out In The Cold
10 - Cant Take My Eyes Off Of You
11 - Glory Road
12 - When Everyone Wore Hats
13 - Pay For Surf
14 - So Far, So Good
15 - And So it Goes

Now, does anybody have any connections with Arena Rock Records? Confused

I wish there was some way to present our ideas to Arena Rock. Even if we could, though, it would probably be smart to wait and see just how good/bad the Darn Floor - Big Bite reissue does commercially.

I like your selections, Josh&etc. Cool

It's interesting to me that if you were to ask different Journey fans what their favorite songs from that band are you'd have nearly identical lists. Same is true for most bands. But when you talk about Daniel Amos, you'd get 50 different answers for every 100 people you asked. It really says something about Daniel Amos.

...At least I think it's interesting.

Styx- "Too Much Time On My Hands"

(Tommy Shaw)

Sitting on this barstool talking like a nada fool
Got the twelve o'clock news blues
And I've given up hope on the afternoon soaps
And a bottle of cold brew
Is it any wonder I'm not crazy? Is it any wonder I'm sane at all
Well I'm so tired of losing- I got nothing to do and all day to do it
I go out cruisin' but I've no place to go and all night to get there
Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal?
Is it any wonder I'm not in jail?
Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands, it's ticking away with my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands, it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands and it's ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands, too much time on my hands
Too much time on my hands

Well, I'm a jet fuel genius - I can solve the world's problems
Without even trying
I have dozens of friends and the fun never ends
That is, as long as I'm buying
Is it any wonder I'm not the president
(He's not the president)
Is it any wonder I'm null and void?
Is it any wonder I've got

Too much time on my hands, it's ticking away at my sanity
I've got too much time on my hands, it's hard to believe such a calamity
I've got too much time on my hands and it's ticking away from me
Too much time on my hands, too much time on my hands
Too much time on my hands

Thanks.

I think it means that DA is the band that has something for everybody and everything for no one. And as soon as they build a fan base, they move in a different direction (musically). Cool

Posted by jiminy on 07-28-2008 at10:19:

but for the most part - the fans move too...!

Posted by ftg3plus4 on 07-28-2008 at11:32:

Just please don't take the standard greedy route of including some otherwise unavailable material (that non-fans don't care about) on the compilation so that fans will feel obligated to pay for all the other songs that they already have.

Pulling that common stunt is one of the worst music-business ideas ever.

dang!
there goes my "hidden track" idea..

thanks a lot! Big Grin

  RE: DA "Anthology"

All right, what the heck, I'll try this. But instead of putting any thought at at all into it, I'm gonna give myself a 4 minute time limit and see what I come up with off the top of my head. Hopefully I'll have 30 songs. And...go-

I Love You #19
Props
Walls of Doubt
Endless Summer
New Car
Mall All Over the World
Angels Tuck You In
I Didn't Build it for Me
William Blake
Dance Stop
When Worlds Collide
She's All Heart
Sanctuary
The Pool
Shadow Catcher

Strange Animals
Darn Floor Big Bite
Half Light
Unattainable Earth
Big Warm Sweet Interior Glowing
If You Want To
Motorcycle
Grace is the Smell of Rain
Bakersfield
Glory Road
When Everyone Wore Hats
Author of the Story
Who's Who Here
Staggering Gods
Steal Away

Whew. Time's up. I probably missed some great ones--but that's not bad. Less than 5 minutes.
