  New Releases... 2004

Hey kids,

Terry's been discussing a few major projects that he'd like
to start on soon.. including a possible new Swirling Eddies
record (as he mentioned in CCM).

We've been discussing various ways of raising money for
this project with Terry... The best way to generate the
money needed to record that project is to have some new
stuff to sell, obviously... so...

We have a few minor project ideas that are floating around...
I won't go into all of them here because we want some of them
to be a surprise. However, we'd like some feedback on
possible minor releases we could do in early '04 to help
fund the major project. If any of these stick out as something
you would definitely like to see very soon... post and let us know.
If you have another idea of something that might be in the
archives that could be released... mention that as well.
Most of these are things that we would like to do one way or
another anyway... some are already in the works in fact... but
maybe your feedback will help us decide what to focus on next.

- Jubal's Last Band Recordings (Live material and demos from
the pre-DA period)
- "Daniel Amos" reissue
- Previously mentioned "Horrendous Disc Sessions" collection
- The Making of Mr Buechner's Dream DVD
- The DA history compilation DVD (1970s-present day)
- DA at Cornerstone 2000 DVD (We still need some additional
footage from other cameras, folks...)
- Another book set of some kind... ???
- Imaginarium reissue... We want to do this in early '04 if
possible anyway..
- Mothman soundtrack.... also coming soon.. just waiting
on Doug to finish editing the film.

There is other material available as well, but this is some of
the projects that we've either been working on, or they have
been on our minds lately.

We know many of you would like to see a "Darn Floor" reissue
as well... we'll have to look into that again. Theres also the
box set idea... but that would be too expensive to do very
soon I think.

I have highlighted my preferences above. I still like the idea of a box set. I didn't highlight it since you said it was in the distance.

  All good ideas, but...

I had an idea and all the pieces may already be in place for it, but it may be too personal for Terry...

How about a bookset featuring "Knowledge and Innocence" and "A Briefing For The Ascent". Both recordings were made in the face of loss in Terry's life (his grandparents) and share common themes and a kinship in style. Add to that Terry's writings he has said, many times, would culminate in a book about his childhood, living with his grandparents, their impact on his life, Zorro, et. al.

If done in a respectful manner, the set could really come off as a tribute to the Borthwicks and at the same time be a powerful statement for the here and now coping with those gone to the hereafter.

Just an idea.

By the way, what's the status on the When Everyone Wore Hats bookset? I still want one, but money has been tight and I was waiting to see what might roll in for Christmas. Am I out of luck?

WEWH booksets are still in stock at the moment if thats what you're asking...

Posted by DwDunphy on 12-20-2003 at10:36:

  Yeah, something like that.

Good to know.

That'll be on tap in the next week or so.

Posted by DwDunphy on 12-20-2003 at10:52:

  An addendum to my idea

And this is totally out there, but I wanted to type it out before I forgot.

The bookset would include a third disc, an all-star set exploring loss and coping.
For instance:

Derri and Steve doing an acoustic version of "Hey Gene"
Randy Stonehill doing "Grandfather's Song" and "Sing In Portuguese"
Mike doing a Dogs-like stripped down version of "Don't This Way"

Each performer could contribute a written statement on their song, or even eulogize if they'd like. Think of it as a cathartic experience through words, art and song and call the whole thing "Here And Now".

Anyone into this?

Here you go boys, these are my picks for what I'd like to see for 2004.

"Horrendous Disc Sessions" collection
- The Making of Mr Buechner's Dream DVD
- The DA history compilation DVD (1970s-present day)

Would the DA history compilation contain the "10 Songs"?
What exactly does the HD Sessions contain?
How long is the Making of MBD?

Finally, what would it take to get DA (the whole band) to play at Cornerstone.
How about an Amos & Randy night at Cornerstone?

Apart from Imaginarium (which I have) I'll buy the lot of what you suggest above.

Posted by audiori on 12-20-2003 at15:29:

Well, the Horrendous Disc era has a lot of unreleased material,
demos, and stuff. Similar to the stuff on Shirley Goodness and misery
and No Sense of History.

The making Of Buechners DVD... we have 6 hours of footage to
edit down to something watchable. We also have a semi-pro
video of the first time they perfomed songs from it live, which would be
nice to put on the end.

The Jubals Last Band demo tape we got from one of the old band members,
it's from a cassette so quality wise it's not great but historically
it's extremely cool.

I personally like the idea of the Knowledge and Breifing bookset,
but booksets cost a lot and it would need to be done extremely well
with a good budget.

We sent Terry a note about that suggestion, and told him about this
thread.. so keep discussing. It's ultimately up to him and the guys,
but getting the ideas floating around helps in the inspiration process.

Terry also has ideas on what he would like to put out.

  At Least...

to have Briefing re-issued. I long for a copy of that album and don't have it. That would be sweet. As for all the other ideas, in one word:

YES!

  Wants/ideas

1. I like a lot of where you're going with this:
- Jubal's Last Band Recordings: YES
- "Daniel Amos" reissue: NO, already own it
- "Horrendous Disc Sessions": YES
- The Making of Mr Buechner's Dream DVD: YES
- The DA history compilation DVD: YES
- DA at Cornerstone 2000 DVD: YES
- Another book set of some kind... YES
- Imaginarium reissue... NO, already own it
- Mothman soundtrack....YES

FYI I will buy reissues I already own if another track or two is thrown in, or even a digital remaster.

2. BFtA: I have the CD, but all the dialog from the cassette is cut out. You know, Mr. Borthwick goes to the gallery, etc. I liked it, it helped it to flow. I would definitely buy the reissue if this part was restored and maybe an extra track added.

3. How about another CD of TST/DA-related tracks that didn't make it to a bona fide DA recording, such as other unreleased tracks from Terry, DA, Crime Horse, Eddies, plus Strong Hand of Love and other odds and ends? Are there any things left in "Ed's garage" or some other cache?

4. Are there other things that would have a better ROI than begging a % from Bud Killen? EX: the Stunt site shows some recordings I've been interested in for some time (Live bootleg, K&I special edition, SG&M/NSoH). Does Stunt wholly own them and can it return a healthy %?

5. How about a book of Terry musings, including some of the articles I've found on the web from time to time? My wife and I really liked Terry's contribution to City on a Hill last year.

6. Fan club: I renewed not too long before the cutoff, and so I don't expect to receive anything for a while. But can you give us a reminder to renew (or an automatic) and more importantly more reasons to renew, so the store can get some recurring income?

Stupid question: why a new Eddies and why not a new DA? I would be willing to help fund this same as I did with MBD.

Thank you J&E for asking. It's always exciting to hear this kind of news.

Posted by audiori on 12-20-2003 at17:41:

Not sure where the inspiration for a possible new Eddies record
came from... I think its probably more just wanting to do something
different than the last major project. Terry may post and answer
on that...

With the fan clubs... yes, we hope - if the clubs continue - to make
them a little more exciting for members... thats part of what we've
been discussing with Mike & Terry lately. There have been a lot of
problems with the way the clubs were done... basically before, we
were "lucky" to get it done the way were were doing it. It was a
miracle if we had enough discs for everyone when a new club release
came out... it was another miracle if we had enough money to ship
them all out... it was a third miracle if we lived through the process of
putting all of the covers together by hand without a major case of
carpal tunnel. Even if we accomplished all of the above, there
would be almost zero chance that the clubs wouldn't slow everything
else down (as it did this last summer and fall).

We're trying to come up with a way where we can not only offer
club members something a little more exciting, but also make
the entire system a little faster and more stable.

Theres even a chance that we'll have a "fan club staff"... a group
of volunteers that will help run all of that stuff. We have several
people that are willing to step in and help out if thats what
Mike & Terry decide to do.

Keep the new release dialogue going folks... its definitely
giving us some ideas.

Posted by audiori on 12-20-2003 at18:13:

Oh and to answer a previous question, there are things
that can be released. Demos, studio recordings, live stuff
that has not already leaked out too much. We personally are aware
of some, but I am sure theres stuff we don't even know about.

We kinda have our personal opinion of what we would like to see and
what we think everyone would enjoy. Your comments will help refine
and focus what direction we go and what we spent time working toward.

I am sure Terry and the guys will be interested in what everyone says too,
they maybe with family this week.

And the Mothman stuff basically depends on Doug TenNapel and what
he is doing and what he wants to help us with on the soundtrack.
They had suggested putting out the soundtrack at the same time
as the Movie.

I'm sick and tired of having to like you and your re-releases...

nah.......- I agree with Hemi-
though the Mothman Soundtrack sounds very interesting...and the Jubal stuff-whew-I think NOW we are talking historical archive series.....

A Making Buechner DVD would rock!
and a HD extras- outakes, ... anthology approach thing-would be priceless
(but dont make it that way......)

Thanks j and e for the heads up!

- The Making of Mr Buechner's Dream DVD for sure.
MBDDVD woould be fantastic

and the briefing/K&I bookset is a great idea, too.

I'd like to see a Swirling Eddies boxset.

I will buy anything I don't already own and stuff I do if it has bonus tracks. The more the better Tongue

Things have changed since that post above. i would want to buy each but would struggle to do so... (see prayer area)

Posted by DwDunphy on 12-21-2003 at06:58:

I'll keep you in my prayers, Captain.

Yeah, all these ideas are very tempting but I have to quote Knott on this one:
