Technically it would be considered a CDA file, but really there is no such thing as a CDA file they are really just created by the operating system to show representations of the audio tracks on a CD. There really is no 'file' format to an actual audio CD. It is more of a continuous stream of raw digital data in a continuous spiral starting from the inside of the CD and ending at the outer edge of the CD.

It's basically like a digital record, the laser being the needle follows the tracks and shines upward onto the track and reflects back a binary signal based on those bumps/holes.

I have always thought that wav and CDA (CD-DA)files were the same thing. But then it is just the way the computer interprets the music in the cd. I always thought of the wav as a container for the PCM data. So the computer sees the container as a format??? Is this right?? I found this article

The audio is stored digitally on a CD via a technique known as PCM, or Pulse Code Modulation. PCM data consists of snapshots of an audio waveform’s amplitude measured at specific and regular intervals of time. The CD format consists of 44,100 measurements of the waveform’s amplitude per second, so is said to have a sample rate or sampling frequency (fs) of 44.1kHz. This is important, because the Nyquist Theorem states that the high-frequency limit of a PCM digital audio system is dictated by the sample rate, and that the sample rate must be at least double the highest frequency that will be recorded. So a 44.1kHz sample rate can theoretically store frequencies up to just above 20kHz, approximating the theoretical upper limit of the best human hearing.

PCM is a ‘raw’ or uncompressed format, meaning that all of the data that is captured is stored and all of it is used to recreate the waveform on playback. In other words, the bit-stream entering the system when recording is, theoretically, identical to the bit-stream reproduced by the system on playback. To put CD quality in context, most professional PCM audio recording systems currently use 24-bit word lengths — resulting in a theoretical 141dB (144 minus 3dB for dither) signal-to-noise ratio — and sample rates of up to 192kHz, for increased high-frequency response.

PCM data is commonly stored as WAV or AIFF files, which are relatively large files when compared with compressed formats. That’s no surprise, of course, because the whole point of audio data compression is to reduce file sizes, so that content can be more quickly downloaded over the Internet, and so that more songs can be stored on your iPod.

yep, iTunes store uses aac (mp4) at 256 kbps and amazon
uses MP3 variable rate of V0 and both are lossy formats. The reason
I prefer cds Big Grin .

On the other hand a cd contains WAV files which are lossless files.
This WAV files contain the uncompressed audio in the linear pulse code modulation (LPCM) format which is the standard for cds.

It's true that the cd runs more of a risk of getting scratched, but if you're careful, you should be okay. It's a compromise, but unless you're a big time rock star, money is always a consideration!

when there's a will, there's a way

This are eco-friendly digipaks made out of egg carton and sugar cane
and seem to protect the cd better than just plain carton. When
you invest on the cd my thought is that is should be protected
even if the digipak should contain plastic imho. There needs to
be a balance between good looking , and protection. "but if im careful",
yes my cd is out of the digipak and it might stay out. Crying

1) Artwork... I feel like there's a lot more that can be done with a digipak. You can really use every bit of space.

2) Shipping. I hate jewel cases that crack and fall apart in the mail. Digipaks are less expensive to ship and very rarely break. That's huge.

They are more difficult to store as a CD buyer though... I'm always worried they're going to get crushed or something.

I think the only thing I like about a digipak is that to some extent it resembles
a mini vinyl which I think is a good thing. I would have prefer the one used
for Daniel band.

Shipping; well if its well protected it shouldn't break but the thing is
you can easily replace the jewel case and everything is OK. But my
DHSTA is marked and a bent corner because of the plastic wrap. You cannot
repair that Crying .

Another good thing I can point is that it fits on my case logic contrary to "old angel" and "burning like the midnight fire" which I have to store in a big case where I store boxsets.

@DwDunphy , funny that the paper sleeve fits perfectly on 'old angel" , but
for DHSTA I left the cd outside.

I have one big complaint about DIG here,
I see no one has mention this but in the end
I don't like the digipack use for dig here. The reason for this
is how easily the cd can get scratches. MBD isn't that bad
because the cd is store in a hard plastic just like
a jewel box, but in this case the cd is just in one
carton compartment which I feel will scratch the
cd after multiples in and outs. I have one question
if the cd was done with retroactives? as they used
a different digipack on the Daniel bands last reissues
which also has a hard plastic and it is in between the
mbd and dig here digipacks. Ill upload a photo later
when I get home. What I did was store the cd in a plastic
case.

exactly!! , DA is my favorite Christian band... but I would never compare non-Christian music with Christian music. Though I see this picture as some sort of joke. Music has many genres: classical, rock, pop, etc..........
To put Beethoven as a monkey is a joke, can we say a genius was a monkey; NO. classical music is just another genre totally different from pop, rock, etc.
To say ELO is a better and a more refine "beatles", that is plain absurd as the Beatles will be the greatest band in history and eventhough ELO is pretty good, ELO will never be better than the Beatles. ELO is a band similar but has its difference (opera, etc). DA on the other hand is a more alternative band, but in horrendous D. you can really see the ELO Beatlesque influences. Even on DHSTA you can see beatles and beach boys influence. Why would bands go back to pre-historic bands if they are already more evolved and better? I think they would create instead of copying.
As WoaaahJelly says for me DA is apples(Christian music) and the others are oranges(non-Christian). I would not like to compare them. It is very difficult to say that the beatles was a pre-historic band and that ELO and DA are much better and refine!! cause it isn't true. Just my 2 cents.

in spite of these picks i never know which one may snag my sub-conscious next. the song last in the poll had it going just the other day... "we got dressed in our NT best..." on & on.

didn't they do a good job of sinking the hooks? and that is a good thing in this case.
yep they did Big Grin , all eleven songs have made the favorites..

Given the ranking for Forward in Reverse in the poll, others may, as I do, think it was not the best choice for the first song. In truth I was very taken back when that song began. By the time they wrapped it up I thought it worthy to be on an album with high expectations, but when it began I was greatly disappointed, thinking it sounded like a rehash on a large scale, particularly of MB's Dream, like getting an appetizer that ruins the anticipation for the main course.
he he, I thought that "forward in reverse" was a MBD lost song definitely sounded as it was left behind for the next album.

Greg's perfect guitar part.. the strings towards the end, interrupted by the crashing drums... hearing it in the studio gave me chills... Terry did quite a few takes for the vocals and with each take, his voice would crack or add some little flavor that just sent chills down the spine).
funny this is my favorite song and just out of fun I thought Terry took 1 week of rest before recording it and then voice rehab after... lol, HE definitely did a great job with his voice this album

my other 4 are:

waking up under water
dig here said the angel
love grace and mercy
forward in reverse @Sondance, yep I voted for this one, reminds me of my DA favorite album.........

If I could get one inexpensive I might consider it just so the product looks better on my shelf. . . I will have to look into this.

it is better to spend 15 for the original than 5 for an amazon cdr

actually as I said it before the great achievement was making the 500 list, that definitely deserves a lot of credit, but the order Big Grin , a joke

you see DA fearful symmetry at 274 which is bad but when you see mchammer at 239 then the joke starts, I could start listing many others that dont deserve being over FS but its a matter of opinion. He should definitely name it "My favorite CCM 500 albums of all time" . Other lists have DA on their top 10, logical sense. Terry being one of the greatest songwriter, with so many achievements!!!

DA DIDNT EVEN MAKE IT ON THE TOP 25 as it should have been, one made it I dont know how

It just looks more ridiculous
If he included victim of the age at number 4 (this came out on 32 on ccm presents 100..), what the heck happened to second hand at 154 (came out as 4 on the same list which in this case made a better judgement!!)

keith is ok at 5

Welcome to paradise, i guess this is the one everyone picks on their 100 list to be in their 10 finalist but i think there are better!!!

I would have pick 2 daniel amos albums to be on the top 10 and HD should have been one of them but its at 47 Roll Eyes (lets hope he considers including another one just dont know which as he has them already in very bad places) pretty sure Larry is gonna take one of the top 3 on his list.
vox humana 345
MBD at 147
dfbb as the topic says 77
shotgun 57
horrendous 47
doppel 28

He has done a great job doing a 500 list but the problem has been the order.
