You know it's strange that TST and Steve Taylor were mentioned, 'cause I was talking to somebody a couple of days ago about how I thought the Mike Roe and Steve Taylor would be a good match.

Starflyer 59 & Fearful Symmetry 12-23-2002 13:50 Forum: General Discussion

Starflyer 59's new album 'Leave Here a Stranger' sounds very similar to Fearful..and what's strange is when I first bought the album when I browsed through the tracks I thought that it sounded like Terry had been in on the project, When I looked in the liners notes, he had taken over producing them after Gene passed away. Gone are all the harder edged songs. These guys know how to make catchy melodic pop/alter songs in the vein of Travis and Coldplay. The more I listen to it the more it seems Starflyer musically wrote thier songs in a way thats almost a tibute to Terry.

wasn't 'My Room' practically a cover of 'Golden Years'?

I saw Da/Swirling Eddies in concert one time in'90 at Cornerstone. The first half was the Eddies followed by the DA set. It was the first year of the Eddies. Terry & Co. came out all dressed in thier own costumes. I remember Terry wearing a really big hat, and I think Rob wore a dress and Mctaggart was some sort of caveman, can't remember what the others were. After that set they changed clothes and did an amazing DA set. Randy Stonehill came on stage to sing the Animal's song "we gotta get out of this place" with the band because it was so hot in that metal building.

Drowning... is good ,but to me Sticks and Stones and Pray Naked are more solid efforts. I admit the 77s lost me starting with Tom Tom Blues, but Roe's solo efforts are great and might as well be 77s material.-Especially 'Its For You' live album, I'm still kicking myself for missing that tour.

'No Room for Us' is about as blatant Simon and Garfunkel as it gets.
Reminds me of 'Scarborough..'

When I posted this I was referring more to direct musical 'borrowings' than a general influence. I seem to find more of these when listening to the Beatles more obscure songs.

The Beatles and TST tunes 10-16-2002 20:26 Forum: General Discussion

Been reading the board for a little while now and haven't seen this one come up.

Can anybody list TST tunes that are directly musically related to Beatles songs in whole or part.

My example:- 'As the World Turns' is practically a cover version of 'Polyethelene Pam'
The end of 'Traps, Ensnares....' with the flute seems to be a sample of the same thing at the end of the instrumental 'Flying'

I know there has to be a lot more, which is why I decided to to ask you guys.
