Questions re: Nashville area show... 05-05-2010 09:31 Forum: General Discussion

1) Is it still on with all the recent flooding?

and (most importantly) - are there any East tennesseans (Knoxville area) who are considering going and would be open to a tagalong (would chip in gas $$ and prmise to leave my hockey mask and chainsaw at home).

NO City on A Hill? Not the first one (which features Gene Eugene) or the Christmas album (which features Terry)? Oh, well. Admittedly, on the whole I prefer the "At the Foot of the Cross" albums and "Noel".

Back to the topic... probably Shotgun Angel was my biggest curve ball. I had discovered TST thru the Swirling Eddies and had back tracked through the Alarma Chronicles albums. In the early '90's when the self-titled amd Shotgun angel were first released on CD, I got SA and ... well... It was a good thing that I had a tolerance for the Eagles.

Later when Scenic Routes hit, I was mildly surprised by the country sound, but SA had provided a knowledge of TST's country background, so it wasn't a total shock.

Where about in SC? I'm in East TN (Knoxville area) and I would be up for a group effort.

Geeez... 03-14-2008 15:37 Forum: General Discussion

As much as I'm enjoying reading this thread, it's hard as h-e-double-hockey-sticks to answer!

I loved the 1st three albums - those "lets-fill-the disc-up-with-as-much-music-as-possible" albums. There was a wideness and variety to those that was just fun. If I had to choose - I would probably rank them as:
1. GRS
2. LRRH
3. SR
However, just understand that there is very little space between those ratings.

Then came the "second phase" of the dogs - more unified in musical direction (within each individual album), primary songwriting done by Terry. At first, I have to admit that I felt a bit "cheated" by Gift Horse - it was too short. However, there are several tracks on that album that have helped me through some rough spots "Diamonds to Coal", "Blessing in Disguise", "Loved and Forgiven", even the traditional "Farther Along".

Of the "second phase" albums, that one is probably contending with "Lost Cabin" for top spot (with the others in close following).

"Island Dreams" is its own special little album. It's fun to listen to and (as I posted somewhere else) it's the kitschy kind of cool that would fit on a Quentin Tarrantino soundtrack.

Ahhh, sweet mail. What a lovely surprise in my mailbox last night. My wife and kids weren't back from errands yet, so I cranked it up on my stereo. Mmmmm. Good.

Many thanks, Audiori's!

(But what will Ihave to anticipate in the mail now? Maybe the DFBB re-issue will get done speedily??!!)

Do you by chance have him doing "There's More to Love (Than Singing a Love Song)"? Andy at his plaintive best. (Of course, for lyrical depth - there is no comparison to "Catch a Bus" or "Cheetos".)

Out of curiosity are you the one who ended up with the Elvis outfit from "Joseph and the Amazing Tech. Dreamcoat"? He told me he gave it to one of his Medicine Crow buddies.

OMG! Chugging milk! I never examined the photo that closely. (I didn't know I had a reason to.) Wow.

Andy was the one who (successfully) introduced me to TST/DA/SE via the Swirling Eddies. He would play "Hide the Beer". We had another friend who had tried to get me to listen to "Let's Spin" by telling me it sounded like Blood, Sweat and Tears. It doesn't.
