I asked Michael W. Smith if he's going to the barbecue; and he said:

"But I could never live in a yurt
On a diet of Mongolian barbecue
I conquer the world for a moment, then the moment is gone."

Are you trying to say that Daniel Amos is the abomination of desolation? Uh, I think you can forget that invitation you had for the BBQ.

dfbb- the play by play 07-09-2003 20:44 Forum: General Discussion

Well, I'm listening to dfbb for the first time ever right now; I'm up to Safety Net. One thing I can say for sure at this point:

Whatever my final opinion will be of this project, I can clearly see, already, that from a production standpoint, it is outstanding.

The music is otherworldly; never heard anything like it. Each isntrument is just as pronounced as the vocals. Makes me think DA should try an instrumental album sometime.

So far, I'm really diggin' it.

His goal, on "Inseperable", was to make a good vocal album before he gets too old.

Its ridiculously laid back; and its hard to listen to the whole thing through, becasue you might fall asleep. However there seems to be really neat, though laid back, musical landscapses to all of the songs; and all of the lyrics are pretty deep. It has the feel of like you're in the middle of a very holy cathedral. Definitely an artist hard at work on that one, rather than one of his standard pop/rock/folk/gutitar hero albums.

DFBB is unlike anything you've ever heard. I can't think of anything else like it, except to say it's an extension of Fearful Symmetry. Other than that I can't think of any other band or album to compare it to.

Those usually seem like the best ones; its like it takes time to perceive exactly what the artist was trying to do.

With Phil Keaggy's "Inseperable" cd, I'm still taking "baby steps" with it, because it was such a major shift of sound. But everytime I play it, I pick up on something cool, or deep, that I didn't notice before. Its a pretty deep piece of work.

Those are the kinds of albums where the musician totally sold out to the art, and those types of albums usually stand the test of time pretty well.

Thanks for the warnings though; I'll listen with low expectations and hope to be surprised. From the way Joey is describing it, I was thinking I'd be slain with ecstasy from the first note. Well, from what everyone's saying, I'm sure that the ecstasy with dfbb will at least come sooner or later, anyways.

I figured if someone was just going to roll their eyes at me, write me off, and not talk reasonably to me, I'd just throw up my arms and say he/she had their huha. Beats getting into a tizzy about it.

Like I say, it was/is more of a coping mechanism than a personal attack on anyone.

BTW, huha in advance to any smarty-aleck "huha", "rolleye", etc. responses. Big Grin

Maybe I'll have to think of another mystery acronym, word, or phrase now. Big Grin

Well, hmmm, I don't know, the word has been a personal secret for over half a year now; and it probably won't win me any friends. Although it was only devised as a coping mechanism for me, not necessarily as a malicious tearing down of anyone.

A hint, eh? Let's see... well, here's two:
1) Your assumption is on the right track.
2) "huha" is an acronym for...some description of how soemone's acting at a given time.

I'm the only one who knows what "huha" means, so nee ner na ner nee noo.

Aren't you just dying to know what it means? Should I tell you? Well...maybe not quite yet. Unless someone's really really interested, maybe then I can at least drop a hint.

Good one. Big Grin

That reminds me of the time my gay cousin went to London. He was so disappointed to find out that Big Ben was a clock.

I thought that her CD "The Fire Again" was a nice worshipful comeback, a few years back. Very refreshing that there wasnn't a gimmick in sight on that one.

"There's a Place For Us" was, and still is, a great song, IMHO.

In honor of Petra firing Louie Weaver, I voted for them.

Its nice to see him gone. He was so over-efeminite and goofy looking with his long girlish hair towards the end, that you just wanted to punch his lights out. I could see in the seventies, and maybe the eighties, because that was the in thing; but when you got someone looking that stupid at his age, like I say, you just want to clock the guy.

I have a feeling they'll be just as good/better without him. Hartman and Schlitt going at it with full force classic rock sound; that's about as good as it gets. Hartman writes some excellent slower songs too.

I'm so glad that they got rid of that guy, that I'll probably end up picking up the CD when it comes out in August.

Something about a guy in his forties or fifties with long stringy hair, a goofy-ass grin, and a Mickey mouse t-shirt, just sends me in the opposite direction of being inspired.

Other than that, all my best wishes and prayers go out to him and his loved ones in this time of him finally have to get a life, WOOPS, I mean uh, in this time of his tragically getting fired from Petra. Big Grin

I will keep you in my prayers too. In the meantime, take some comfort in these lyrics Phil Keaggy sings, in a song called "Disappointment" on his "Love Broke Thru" album.

DISAPPOINTMENT (from Phil Keaggy's "Love Broke Thru" album)
---------------
Disappointment - His appointment,
Change one letter, then I see
That the thwarting of my purpose
Is God's better choice for me.

His appointment must be blessing
Though it may come in disguise
For the end from the beginning,
Open to His wisdom lies.

Disappointment - His appointment
Whose? The Lord's who loves best.
Understands and knows me fully,
Who my faith and love would test.

For like loving, earthy parent
He rejoices when He knows
That His child accepts unquestioned
All that from His wisdom flows.

Disappointment - His appointment
No good thing will he withhold
From denials oft we gather
Treasures from His love untold.

Well, He knows each broken purpose
Leads to fuller deeper trust
And the end of all His dealings
Proves our God is wise and just.

Disappointment - His appointment
Lord I take it then as such,
Like the clay in hands of potter
Yielding wholly to Thy touch

All my life's plan is Thy molding
Not one single choice be mine
Let me answer unrepining,
Father not my will but Thine.
