sound quality Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

Has anybody ever noticed this problem?

I recently started ramping up my DA / SE collection with CDs. I previously had only been listening to all their great stuff on record albums. Yes, I still have a turn-table that works!

Well, when I got the "Our Personal Favorite World Famous Hits" CD - I noticed that the songs sounded quite a bit different than what I was used to.

I just figured that was because they had probably been re-mixed digitally or something.

But now that I've got my new (used) Vox Hummana CD - I've discovered that's not the case.

This CD appears to be the same as the original record album I have. It doesn't appear to have been re-mixed or remastered or anything.

But to me the music sounds totally different. Like, I can hear all kinds of instruments I didn't hear before. Specifically, there's one song that I can now hear an organ playing in the background, and I can't hear that on my Record Player.

Anybody else notice this?

It's actually a tiny bit of a let down. I was used to the sound (I suppose) of the needle dragging along between the grooves of my record player. And now it ain't there no more...

Help me out here please, am I goin' crazy or what???

~ Kaf

uh, you're complaining cuz the sound is better than before?

I used to ''miss'' the usual cracks and pops.....but I haven't listened to a record in such a long time. I can't remember the exact places for them to happen any more. I think thats a good thing?Roll Eyes

Shocked
Go to a quiet place and listen to the tracks with headphones on set at medium level...
You'll be amazed at what you hear.

Each time I listen it seem I pick up new effects in the background.

Has anyone else noticed that the sound quality on Live at Cornerstone 2K is really bad?
Well, I guess it has something to do with the thread.Wink

Yup,
I bought it with good intentions...
was very disappointed in the quality.
Now it is part of the collection... collecting dust, sad to say.

I was fairly satisfied with the Alarma Chronicles bookset (except for the fact that there was no track listing, and no indication whatsoever of where the albums were split up. Of course, that's not as bad as having an inaccurate track listing, like they do on Live at C2K).Confused

I did like the Alarma book set too, I had forgotten that they were part of that.

Guess I'm in the minority, but.... Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

....I really dig DA@C2K, warts and all. Heck, if only for Terry's monologue before "Broken Ladders to Glory" it's worth it, but I think it's loads of fun as well.

I like the CD too (any DA live CD can't help but be enjoyable), but the poor sound quality and the track listing that was apparently done by someone on crack still drive me crazy (or crazier, as the case me be Big Grin )

DAMbers-
I have noticed that up thru the late 80s (and even beyond)
Many, many CCm records, tapes, and even cds sound terrible, all the highs missing and muddy.
The tended to work on small budgets, and it shows
give me the crispies anyday...
there are acceptions, but to me the norm was pretty flat.

LOL, JiMStEr!

Speaking of live performances, I just found out a day or two ago that it was my buddy Rick Deering who supplied the tapes for the extra Shotgun Angel tracks & that big honkin' track at the end of Mark Heard's Mystery Meat, so I feel compelled to give a shout-out for him -- everyone note yr copies appropriately....

just to clarify... Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

The Alarma bookset was an M8 project or at least
printed by their distribution company, I mean...label.

But, the disc masters were created by us, the text
to the Chronicles, Radio Shows and Lyrics came from
us, the article text came from the article writers,
the photos came from us and Tom Gulotta, and the artwork
and layout was Brian Heydn's creation.
That didn't leave much for M8 to 'create'.
Even the concept for a entire Alarma Chronicles CD set,
was an old DA idea.. Terry talked about in the HRS
Interview part III,I believe.

The bands tried to continue working with M8, by creating
the masters and artwork to the releases themselves and let M8 just finance and print them. But even that didn't work,
artwork and masters that were fine when they left..were
M8ed for lack of a better term.

I know the bands, DA, Dogs and 77's... were unhappy with the
quality of product that came from that label. And they are determined to start putting out better product even if it means working indipendant. That's why there has been delays
over the last 6 months, as they try to get financially
indipendant. Things are looking good for the near future,
as you can see by the plans that are in motion... Smile

and that was the last one that wasn't totaly screwed up by them.

I think it's worth the wait for Terry and all to get out on their own and have more controll over this stuff.

Woo hoo! Can't wait for new stuff.

Any way for us unfortunate non cornerstoners to get a copy around the same time as cornerstone? Or do we have to suffer through all the reviews untill you guys get back and and set up the store? (not really complaining) Just wondering if you can start selling a few days before you go to cornerstone? Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Well, that explains why the bookset turned out so good.

We can have stuff set up to order as we go to
Cornerstone, but we won't be able to send stuff out until we get back.
