After the year delay in getting Prickly Heat, I told myself I would not participate in any more of these pre-order deals. I'm sort of relieved to read that others felt the same way. However, I've had a change of heart, to an extent (yeah, I'm nervously waiting in line, too), so I went ahead and ponied-up my $$$ for this project. If things fall through for whatever reason, oh well, I'm out 20 bucks. The gift Terry & Co have given me through their music over the years is pretty much priceless when I think about it. I would, however, like to make a special request to J & E; since I live a mere 15-20 minutes down the road from you cats, just email me when the product reaches you guys and I'll be happy to stop on by and pick it up...you can even keep the S&H charges. I think the one thing that bugged me the most about the Prickly Heat snafu was reading everybody's 'hey, mine arrived today' messages for over a month or two before mine finally arrived.
My 2 cents...

Heck, even *we* felt the same way. To this day, I still don't
know exactly what the hold up was with that release. We were
told repeatedly that we were going to have them by a certain
date and they didn't show up until late 2003 or whatever it was.
What made things worse was that we didn't know what info
to pass on to the preorderers... we sent out updates when we
got them, but for most of the time - we were getting nothing
but silence. That's exactly the kind of situation we've been
trying to avoid since we started handling the preorders.

The main problem there was that when we finally got the CDs, the
manufacturer didn't send us the correct number of discs. We shipped
what we had and then had to wait for the rest to show. We never
found out what caused that situation either. Similar situation we
were always in with the fan clubs.

I think the only thing I'm waiting on now is Michael Roe's "Say Your Prayers".
"WEWH Bookset" came in, much to my delight, and is now on a special shelf in my collection alongside "Is There Anybody In There - The Wall Live Bookset", "The Alarma Chronicles" and George Harrison's mini-boxset of "All Things Must Pass".
Not bad company, eh?

...but then I'm not sure I care if it comes a year late, what great news! I really like D-Dub's idea of a k&i/bfa box set, too (my k&i is in constant rotation).
Here's an idea about Darn Floor:
DFBB should be reissued as a two-cd box set, including a remastered original recording with a history/interesting-tidbits booklet (this would appeal to the fans who really want a reissue), and Da should re-record all of the same songs with their 2004 musical sensibilities... a 21st century remake of DFBB, fresh and jamming! (again, this would be for the fans who just want more... and it would aim at getting this "new" album heard by non-Da-(Ed)-heads who really should hear the substance and style of this incredible album.
To me this satisfies the quandary of what to ask for; a reissue of some of the best music ever made, or new music by a band which is still making the best music around (MBD).
Either that or Terry and the band should remake themselves yet again (imagine the possibilities!) and re-record DFBB so the next generation will have a chance to hear it!

Those DFBB ideas are fantastic, Mindgasket (I see why you named yourself thusly!) If there was ever an album that deserved the re-release "royal treatment" , Darn Floor Big Bite is that album.

In all fairness, I don't think I'd want to see a re-recording of DFBB. I mean, it sounds so great as is, I don't think the songs would benefit or take on new shadings if they're performed unplugged and such.
However, I recently got two reissue discs: Joe Jackson "Night And Day" and Yes "90125". Their respective labels have done a fantastic job with remastering, plugging in relevant extra tracks like demos, live cuts, b-sides and songs from the same period that just didn't make the cut. Add to that very informative booklets with original album art and lyrics and these are really nice packages!
Now, if there is a perfect candidate for this star treatment, it's DFBB. I would love to hear the odds and ends that didn't make the final list (I know there has to be some), live versions of the various DFBB favs and whatever extras would nicely coincide.
By the by, if you get a chance to pick up Rhino's redone Yes "90125" (or any of their Elvis Costello double disc reissues) do so. You'll be pleased.

I did pick up 90125 and it is great. I had gotten all the Yes CD's the first time they were reissued. 90125 and Big Generator were not reissued at that time. So I did want to upgrade 90125. Now the Yes catalog has slowly been remastered and reissued again during the past year. The newest (3rd) versions do sound better than the last versions which were remastered by Joe Gastwirt (not sure of spelling on his last name). Big Generator will not be among the reissues. The 1st version is still the version out. I will not be upgrading to the 3rd versions, though they do sound better and have more bonus tracks. It just costs too much money. People could have bought the Yes CD's 3 different times if they upgraded with each remastering reissue.

You are not mistaken in saying it sounds great as it is, because that is very true. However, doesn't it at least sound interesting to imagine what a more seasoned DA could/would do with some or all of the material...??? How would they re-interpret it nearly 20 years later? Not only have the eyes of faith continued to evolve, but technology has, too. It may be something worth exploring...or maybe not. Who knows. No harm in imagining, eh?
