This is always a good telltale sign the story being told is about to go wrong.

Horribly wrong.

welcome Manskow - you don't by any chance hang out on the Fred Magle forum do you?
a bit of a stretch from DA to a Danish concert organist and composer but you never know. There is a sub-group of graphic artists and a very broad variety of musical tastes there also, largely European in interests. For example they have not yet found a reason to like our President, not sure why...

Thanks! - No, I am not familiar with Fred Magle. It does, however, sound like a place worth checking out!

And - to Dennis; loved your eighties remark. It's true. I saw some photographs recently - the kids at the railway station had a point....

Which, in turn leaves me wondering. We've had a string of revivals over the past few decades. A fifties revival in the eighties, a seventies revival in the nineties. We have our "hits of the seventies, eighties and nineties" radio stations. What will happen in ten, fifteen, twenty years when some dork looks back at this decade and says to himself "yeah, that's the look/sound/attitude for this summer: the.........! This decade has no name! And the next one? The teens? Please....

we are much cooler in the zeroes than we were in the 80s.

yea, back in the 80s, i wore leg warmers and braided barrettes in the early 80s, and went to another extreme with the big hair in the late 80s. i though guys with big hair (not just long, i still like that) and makeup were soooooooo good looking. i think i got into every trend in the 80s. what were we thinking?

excellent quote!

the 2 musicians that first come to mind that I took personal pause when I heard of their deaths when they happened were Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rich Mullins

i was too young to really know what was going on when elvis and lennon died, but if i wasn't they wouldn't have quite rated as pauseworthy as vaughn and mullins in my personal book. i remember them covering elvis' death on tv and thinking of the footage "it's a fat guy in a gold suit, why are all those girls screaming?". I remember thinking of lennon "a funny-looking long-haired guy with sunglasses". (and yes, I had heard some of their records.)

i wasn't into CCM when Heard died, either and due to ongoing life events didn't find out about Gene Eugene until some time after his death.

i didn't quite buy the 80's hair (although br's hair in high school was pretty killer). the most i did to try to look cool was get a tie-dye hendrix t-shirt with stonewashed jeans.

a guilty pleasure for me is some of the 80's melodic hard rock in the glam vein. I really liked Dokken (as much George Lynch as anything) and still do. it's hit or miss for me. Bon Jovi, RATT, Poison were just OK to me - if they were on the radio I wouldn't change it.

before it got too bad I started listening to older music and got hendrix, zeppelin, etc. I think I was born a generation later than I should have been

For some reason my highschool mostly listened to Zeppelin Doors etc, and I was there from 85-90. I remember the first time I heard REM, it gave me hope for the new music, that and U2 I guess, but REM seemed to come out of nowhere, though now I know better.
