Here's my thoughts on the last two nights:

I live in Southern Illinois (the Carbondale area) so it's a 3 1/2 drive to Smyrna and about a 2 hour drive to Wentzville. When the tour dates were announced, I was pretty sure I had to go to both. I mean, hey, they havent toured in 20 years and I havent seen them live in 11 years, so what the heck.

The Smyrna show was worth it just to see the one song with Tim. That one moment was such a geek out fan boy moment-- like if John, Paul, George and Ringo had ever been on the same stage together after 1970-- that the 7 hours of driving was so worth it.

The show itself-- well, it's always, always good to see the boys in any situation. And there were many fun, great moments. But overall, it was definitely not ideal.

I've heard from other touring musicians that Nashville is a tough place to play because everyone has a chip on their shoulder, being all musicians. I don't know if that was the case in this room-- and there were definitely plenty of enthusiastic fans-- but the audience was pretty dead. It was also about 15 feet from the band to the first row of seats. The environment just made it an awkward situation.

The band seemed nervous and a little unsure at times (hey, it was the first show) but little mess-ups like "New Car" seemed to loosen them up a bit.

If the show had been in a sweaty pole barn at Cornerstone or a bar, I think the guys would have been much, much better. But the crowd was really giving them nothing.

The sound wasnt too great either. For that kind of room, it should have been pristine. Greg was barely audible the entire show and you could only hear Jerry after he turned up mid-set.

But it was still fun. And still great to see them.

On the other hand, Wentzville was awesome. Fantastic show.

The guys were loose, happy, they played very well. Dropping the four songs from the night before really tightened up the set. The crowd was excited and into it. It was a nice, cozy room. I stood in the back the entire time and was still very close to the band and had a great view of everything. Greg was still a little low in the mix, but it was a small room. You couldnt blast everyone away.

Overall, the last two nights were an amazing experience. As I sat waiting for the Monday night show to start, I felt just like I did when I was 13-- standing on one of the lighting rigs in anticipation of seeing them for the first time at Cornerstone '90.

I wish I would have taken off an entire week of work and followed the band a few more days.

Thanks to everyone involved for making all this possible.

Didn't know I had any of my homeboys on this board - I lived in C'dale for 19 years, until moving to L.A. in 2003.

Do I know you, per chance? I was involved with Chi Alpha campus ministries that whole time - it was hard NOT to meet other Christians around there.

I doubt it. I was only at SIU for awhile and was not involved in any of the campus groups.

I'm 34, so I would have been at SIU from 95-97 and 98-99.

Apart from Greg's high end being too low in the mix, I though the sound was quite good. I was actually surprised at how good the sound was, only having heard some less-than ideal Cornerstone bootlegs as far as DA live is concerned.

The first row was a bit distant from the stage, but I disagree with your assessment of the crowd's enthusiasm. We may just disagree on what makes for a good crowd response; I give you that a Cornerstone gig would have had a different energy, but I think there's a place for sitting and soaking in the music. I though the response after each song was good.

I do wish I could see a later show on the tour...it's bound to get better and better along the way.

I was hoping to catch two shows, but the NJ show does not fit into my schedule unfortunately. So Camp Hill, PA it is. I anxiously await the day!

I doubt my wife would let me see two shows, but Pomona is on my short list should she give the ok.

Yeah, there was a night and day difference in Monday and Tuesday night. But, hey, it was the first show in ten years. Understandable! Smile

I'm sure there will be a lot of cameras rolling at cornerstone.

If we get multiple camera shots from any given show, they can be edited together. A release (of good enough quality) I am sure would go a long way toward funding any future DA project.

They could do like what the violet burning did with their DVD "the loudest sound in my heart". TVB simply set up a couple of cameras at each concert, then, for each song, edited the video from multiple concerts together to a single audio file. It's better than I expected (even though the clothes and venue change during a given song).

The Wilmington, Ohio show was terrific. A good crowd that brought good energy and vibes. A solid venue with excellent 30K watt sound system that hit the room with good thump and detail. There was even some concert level lighting going on!
All of the vocals were great (Averret added beautifully- he also brought energy). I thought it interesting that they played 2 from Bibleland and nothing from Darn Floor. I hate to be picky (but fans are by nature) but I would have rather heard more D.A. than the Eddie cuts. Otherwise, all of the choices were very satisfying--getting to hear a Beuchner cut was a treat!
The band was gracious with the fans after the show but I missed getting a photo with Terry - he left early.
Huge thanks to Allen Willoughby and his Sugartree Ministry (doing great things for his community) for providing the venue. His being in the old Willoughby Wilson band probably had some influence on his above average sound system.
So great to see DA live.

So if you want video shots does that mean I am allowed to take my video camera and get some? I could even tripod it so that the shots are steady. Let me know if this is acceptable.

Yeah, sure. I know the band doesn't mind, Jerry was encouraging it on facebook. The only thing is sometimes the venue can be cranky about it. If we get enough clips, even from different venues maybe we can edit them all together. Would be helpful to get a soundboard recording but again, sometimes the people running sound are helpful and sometimes they are not. Depends on how busy they are.
