The Swirling Eddies (scroll down a bit)

Zoom Daddy is in the TOP 3 of my all time favorite TST related albums.

Eddies are... Reply to this Post Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Posts Report Post to a Moderator       Go to the top of this page

The Eddies include most of present/past DA (Terry, Greg, Tim, Jerry, Rob) plus drummer Dave Raven, eventually Gene Eugene and some "little eddies". After DA's "Darn Floor, Big Bite" the band came together and recorded Lets Spin(198Cool , Outdoor Elvis (1989), DA/Eddies hybrid Miracle Faith Telethon (1990), Zoom Daddy (1994), Berry Vest (1995), Sacred Cows (1996).

There are obvious similarities and overlaps musically/ lyrically between the two groups. DA tends to focus more on the serious side; the Eddies can be serious too, but more often the music can be characterized at various times as side-splittingly funny, danceable, strangely titled, off-the-wall, and/or even offensive to some, but never lacking in the band's creativity or Terry's razor-sharp wit.

We've had some discussion over the years about how we got people introduced to DA. When my wife first made a serious effort to get into DA, I let her spin Motorcycle and Lets Spin, which I consider the most accessible DA/Eddies recordings.

I absolutely kick myself for not buying Lets Spin and Outdoor Elvis CDs when they were released, and hope some day I can replace my worn cassettes with reissues.

Here is how I interpret the bands….

Most of today's Contemporary Christian music = Spam

Daniel Amos = A 16 ounce T-bone flame broiled over mesquite embers

Swirling Eddies = Skewered and roasted pig… whole

Lost Dogs = Beef brisket slowly smoked (all day) so that the meat just falls apart

Terry's solo stuff = Chocolate mousse pie

If you have never listened to the Swirling Eddies, go immediatly to the DA Webstore and order their "Zoom Daddy." This is an awsome display of lyrical insight and poetry. This work is brilliant. If there was a single CD to recover from a burning house, this would be it. The CD would find refuge before the hamster. (God rest ye soul NukNuk, God rest ye soul)

That's a good start because it has songs from the first 2 eddies albums which are their best, but are both out of print. If you like that, then you've gotta get Sacred Cows and maybe you'll see why we make fun of the Tuxedo Clad Megastar so much around here. Pleased

"That's a good start because it has songs from the first 2 eddies albums which are their best..."

Are you suggesting, Joey, that there's a better album on the planet than Zoom Daddy? Confused

If you check out the post from the other day (something about stirring up the pot, even though it didn't), I think I had Elvis at #3. I love it. But Zoom Daddy's on an entirely different stratosphere....

I'll always regret not getting "Sacred Cows" when it first came out. I remember seeing ads for it in some CCM magazine and I thought it looked real cool. But I never got it. WAH!!

If you want it, it shows up on e-bay quite frequently (and usually goes for much less than DFBB or other DA/LD/SE albums). That's where I got it.
