Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work Jason and Eric have done to give us a great place to go on the web and for doing projects like this dvd. I've always wanted to see some video of them even in the 80's. I think there was some sort of video in the 80's. And then Spittle And Phlem. I never saw that either. So this will be an extreme treat. Thank you so much.

Now it's time for me to be a 13 year old.
Hey Tim.
If you happen to read this I've always wanted to say."You know that bass part you played on The Bubble Bursts on Bibleland?
That bass line you did just puts me on cloud nine man.
There was another one on Green Room seranade that gave me that same feeling. I forget the song now and I had the tape and the cd and I lent them both out and You know how that goes.
Anyway just wanted to say your bass playing and the whole band have been such a blessing to me since I was a teenager. I'm 37 now. Can't wait to see the dvd. take care.

Top five. You sound like John Cusack in High Fidelity. Ever seen that?
So let me get this straight. You got Entwistle in there but no McCartney.
I didn't even know The Who had a bass player.
Just kidding.
I never thought about a top 5 but I'll give it a shot.

1)Tim Chandler
2)Paul McCartney
3)John McVie
4)Peter Cetera
5)Jerry Scheff

While Peter Cetera is great, I can't forgive him of writing the balllads for Chicago that sold like 900,000,000 trillion copies and ruined the band. Mad

Well that and guitarist Terry Kath dying. Crying

Yes I too love love love that movie.
And I too Hate all that 80's and 90's Chicago schmaltz.
I was speaking strictly of 70's Chicago where other band members actually sang and wrote hits. He was a pretty nada good bass player.(in the 70's that is).
I tell you what though. There's one I forgot and that's Flea. And the guy from Primus and the guy from Morphine, but mostly Flea.
Terry Kath played some of the most wildly beautiful guitar solos I've ever heard. I still remember the morning we'd heard hr'd died. My dadwas bringing me to school. I was still in elementary. The news report said he was fooling around with a gun, just playing , and shot himself in the head. Has the story changed any in 30 years.
Incidently the solo on 25 or 6 to 4? Oh my God!

I overplayed pretty much their entire catalogue, so I sold them on Ebay.

Although, I do find myself singing "Over My Head" when I'm helping my son get ready for bed. As I pull his shirt off, I start singing:

"Over the head, you put the t-shirt on the floor, over the head, that dirty TEE SHIRT!"

He doesn't get it though. I guess I can't expect him too, he is only three.

I used to love King's X in the early 90's, but I don't enjoy them as much anymore.

I still enjoy "Dogman" if I was pushed to admit any King's X that still did it for me.

For me, Dogman was their peak. I didn't dig much of their later stuff that I heard.

Dogman was less layered and more raw. The lyrics were a little more angry. And who can't dig a song like "Go To Hell"?

Tim is still my hero, even though the bass guitar is history now. Here's my top five, roughly in order:

1. Tim Chandler
2. Doug Pinnick (though I never had more than 4 strings)
3. Geddy Lee
4. Jimmy Garrison
5. Victor Wooten

McCartney's good too, of course, but not quite top five. I did once learn the bass line to that ballad Wings performed in the practice scene of that strange little movie, Give My Regards to Broad Street.

I don't play bass and am not that well-rounded in terms of all different genres and lesser-known bands and such, however I would still have to say as far as actually listening to the bass parts, I like Geddy Lee's work nearly as much as Tim's.

I really like Geddy Lee's work (even if I've gotten tired of the band's near-nihilistic lyrics), but I think that compared to any other bassist I've heard, Chandler is the superior musician. Songs like "Catch That Angel," "Banquet at the World's End," "Mall All Over the World," & "Rice Paper Wings" show an imagination & willingness to do whatever the song demands, as well as the chops to do it. To me, he coaxes more expression out of the instrument. That's how it seems to me anyway.
